# {SERIES_TITLE} — Episode Arc
## 60-Episode Roadmap with Thematic Integration

---

## HOW TO USE THIS DOCUMENT

1. Find the episode number you're about to write
2. Note the **MUST CONTAIN** beats — these are non-negotiable
3. Check **THREADS TO ADVANCE** — reference the state file for current status
4. Note **OPTIONAL/FLEX** elements — opportunities for surprise
5. Add ONE **WILDCARD** moment per episode (see Engine Appendix B)
6. Check **EMOTIONAL BEAT** requirements (see below)
7. The **ONE-LINE** is the episode's core action, not a rigid script

### Flexibility Markers
- 🔒 = Non-negotiable (plot-critical, don't change during generation)
- 🎲 = Flexible (can be adjusted based on what's working)
- ✨ = Opportunity for wildcard/surprise moment
- 💔 = Emotional beat required here

---

## THEMATIC FOUNDATION

Before plotting episodes, anchor the arc in meaning:

### The Thematic Question
> {THE_QUESTION}

This question should be explored from multiple angles across the series. It is NOT answered definitively — the audience should be left to decide.

### "This Is Really About..."
> {THEMATIC_CORE}

Every major plot point should connect to this theme. If an episode doesn't touch the theme, ask why it exists.

### Mythological DNA
> {MYTHOLOGY}

The archetypes and patterns from this mythology should echo through character arcs and story beats.

## THREAD INDEX

Threads are recurring elements that plant early and pay off later. Track them here.

| Thread | Type | Plant | Advances | Payoff | Description |
|--------|------|-------|----------|--------|-------------|
| {THREAD_1} | object | Ep {N} | Ep {N}, {N} | Ep {N} | {Brief description} |
| {THREAD_2} | phrase | Ep {N} | Ep {N} | Ep {N} | {Brief description} |
| {THREAD_3} | image | Ep {N} | Ep {N}, {N} | Ep {N} | {Brief description} |
| {THREAD_4} | memory | Ep {N} | Ep {N} | Ep {N} | {Brief description} |
| {THREAD_5} | foreshadow | Ep {N} | Ep {N} | Ep {N} | {Brief description} |
| {THREAD_6} | object | Ep {N} | Ep {N} | Ep {N} | {Brief description} |

**Minimum 6 threads required.**

**Thread Types:**
- **object** — Physical item that recurs (a coin, a weapon, a photograph)
- **phrase** — Words that gain meaning over time (a saying, a promise, a nickname)
- **image** — Visual motif that resonates (a color, a gesture, a location)
- **memory** — Referenced past event that shapes present (backstory payoff)
- **foreshadow** — Hint at what's coming (a warning, a dream, a throwaway line)

**Thread Markers in Episodes:**
Use these in the "Must Contain" column:
- `[PLANT: Thread Name]` — Introduce the thread
- `[ADVANCE: Thread Name]` — Progress the thread
- `[PAYOFF: Thread Name]` — Resolve the thread

## CHARACTER ARC TYPE

Choose the arc type that fits your protagonist:

### Option A: Positive Arc (Lie → Truth)
Protagonist believes something false. Through the story, they learn the truth.
- **Act I:** Establish the Lie; world seems to confirm it
- **Act II:** Lie is tested; cracks appear; false solutions fail
- **Act III:** Protagonist embraces truth through action
- *Example: Luke Skywalker learns to trust the Force*

### Option B: Flat Arc (Truth → World Changes)
Protagonist already holds a truth. The WORLD is wrong, not them. They change the system.
- **Act I:** Protagonist's truth clashes with corrupt world
- **Act II:** World pushes back; protagonist's truth is tested but holds
- **Act III:** Protagonist's truth transforms the world (or part of it)
- *Example: James Bond, competence-porn heroes, Jinx in Leviathan*
- **Best for:** Sigma flip narratives, "underdog outsmarts the system"

### Option C: Negative Arc (Descent)
Protagonist starts with potential, ends corrupted or destroyed.
- **Act I:** Protagonist has virtues but also a fatal flaw or temptation
- **Act II:** Flaw wins out; protagonist makes increasingly dark choices
- **Act III:** Protagonist becomes what they once opposed (or is destroyed)
- *Example: Walter White, Macbeth, Anakin Skywalker*

### Option D: Disillusionment Arc (Belief → Harsh Truth)
Protagonist believes something comforting. They learn it's false — and the truth is worse.
- **Act I:** Protagonist operates under a hopeful assumption
- **Act II:** Evidence mounts that the assumption is wrong
- **Act III:** Protagonist must live with the harsh truth
- *Example: Chinatown, many noir protagonists*

### Option E: Revelation Arc (Incomplete → Complete)
Protagonist isn't wrong, just missing a piece. They gain understanding, not correction.
- **Act I:** Protagonist is competent but incomplete
- **Act II:** Encounters something that doesn't fit their worldview
- **Act III:** Integrates the new understanding; becomes whole
- *Example: Kian in Leviathan (recovering identity)*

### Relationship Markers (Track These)

Define 5-8 markers specific to YOUR relationship dynamic. The markers depend on the anchor type and starting relationship (see CONSTANTS.md for full list of 8 anchor types: CUB, GHOST, MIRROR, SKEPTIC, TETHER, WITNESS, FOIL, COST):

**For THE CUB (mentor/protector):**
- First time they teach something / First time the cub surprises them
- First time they let the cub take a risk / First time the cub saves them
- First "I'm proud of you" moment / First time the cub surpasses them

**For THE GHOST (haunted by memory):**
- First time they mention the ghost / First time they compare someone to the ghost
- First moment they let someone new in / First time they choose present over past
- First time they say the ghost's name without pain

**For THE MIRROR (rival/shadow self):**
- First grudging respect / First "we're not so different"
- First time they save each other despite rivalry / First shared enemy
- First admission of similarity / First moment of understanding

**For STRANGERS → PARTNERS (like Leviathan):**
- First mutual survival / First use of real name
- First non-transactional sacrifice / First expressed concern
- First "I choose you over the mission" / First unguarded moment

**For OLD FRIENDS/ESTABLISHED BOND:**
- First real disagreement / First secret revealed
- First time loyalty is tested / First crack in the history
- First time they see each other differently / First reconciliation

---

### Micro-Moments (Every 1-2 Episodes)

Small beats that maintain emotional continuity:
- A glance held too long
- An almost-word, swallowed
- A gesture of care disguised as practicality
- {CHARACTER}-specific emotional tell
- {ANCHOR}-specific response pattern

**Rule:** Never go more than 3 episodes without at least a micro-moment.

### Emotional Continuity Tracking

## THEMATIC ARC BY ACT

### Act I: Pose the Question (Episodes 1-15)
The thematic question is introduced through the protagonist's situation.
- **The Protagonist's Stance:** What does the protagonist believe/represent regarding the theme?
- **The World's Stance:** How does the world embody a different answer?
- **The Tension:** Where do these clash?

### Act II: Explore the Question (Episodes 16-45)
The question is tested from multiple angles.
- **Pressure (16-30):** The protagonist's stance is challenged; complications arise
- **Crisis (31-45):** The question becomes urgent; something must give

### Act III: Resolve the Question (Episodes 46-60)
The protagonist's answer is embodied through action, not speech.
- **The Choice:** A moment where the protagonist commits to an answer
- **The Cost:** What they sacrifice or gain
- **The Echo:** The final image/moment resonates with the thematic question
