# Double-View Continuity Lens

## Purpose

This lens checks dialogue and action continuity between ACT I and ACT II in stories with a "double-view architecture" — where the same events are shown twice from different perspectives.

## The Rule

**Any dialogue spoken in ACT I must be spoken identically in ACT II.** The camera angle changes, the internal POV changes, but the PERFORMANCES are the same. An actor playing Past-David would deliver the same lines in both takes.

## What to Check

### 1. Dialogue Matching
Every line of dialogue that appears in an ACT I scene must appear **verbatim** in the corresponding ACT II scene:
- Same words
- Same speaker
- Same context

### 2. Action Matching
Physical actions that are witnessed in both acts must match:
- If Sam "laughs" in Act I, he must "laugh" in Act II
- If David "crumples the wrapper," that action appears in both
- Gestures, movements, reactions must be consistent

### 3. What CAN Differ
- **Internal monologue**: What the POV character thinks/realizes
- **New information revealed**: What was hidden in Act I can be shown in Act II
- **Sam's Mandarin content**: In Act I, we don't understand it. In Act II, we hear the translation.
- **Jason/Future-David's responses**: In Act I, we don't understand his Mandarin. In Act II, we see what he said.

## Checklist for Each Scene Pair

- [ ] All David/Past-David dialogue matches word-for-word
- [ ] All Sam's English dialogue matches word-for-word
- [ ] Sam's Mandarin in Act I = Sam's translated Mandarin in Act II (same content)
- [ ] Physical actions match (laughs, gestures, movements)
- [ ] Scene location/time of day matches
- [ ] If dialogue is ADDED in Act II (Jason's responses), it must be plausible that it occurred off-screen in Act I

## Common Violations

1. **Paraphrasing**: Changing "He's WHITE" to "He could be anyone"
2. **Different stories**: Sam telling grandmother story in Act I but Sue-Hueh story in Act II
3. **Missing lines**: A line appears in one act but not the other
4. **Translation mismatch**: Jason says X, but Sam translates it as Y in one act and Z in another

## Fixing Violations

When a mismatch is found:
1. Determine which version is more dramatically effective
2. Rewrite BOTH episodes to match that version
3. Maximize emotional irony in the Act II version (seeing the same moment with new understanding)
4. Ensure word count stays within V12 limits (see `/CONSTANTS.md`)

## Emotional Irony Opportunities

The double-view should CREATE irony. Look for:
- Lines that were dismissive in Act I → devastating in Act II
- Gestures that seemed hostile → now read as desperate/loving
- Silences that felt cold → now feel full of unspoken truth
- Sam's "broken English" → reveals eloquent Mandarin underneath
